Helga Dreher, born in 1944, grew up in the small town of Neustadt an der Orla. She studied German and English as a foreign language at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and afterwards worked as an English language teacher and consultant in Hermsdorf (Thuringia) for 25 years.
In 1992 she switched to the Thuringian Institute for Inservice Teacher Training where she worked, among other fields, in inservice teacher training and the development of curricula and examination papers for the State of Thuringia.
She is co-author of several publications on language teaching theory and practice.
Since 2003 she has lived in Weimar.
